The HEARTS for Jesus Christ Guardians were the 69-42 winner over the St. Martin de Porres Lions when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. HEARTS for Jesus Christ fell just short of St. Martin de Porres by a score of 55-52. HEARTS for Jesus Christ just can't catch a break and has now endured three losses in a row.
HEARTS for Jesus Christ's loss on Monday came despite strong showings from Maria Cottenden and Alex Zelenka. Cottenden dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Zelenka almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 22 rebounds. Cottenden is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 11 or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Carpenter, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, HEARTS for Jesus Christ smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 34 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
HEARTS for Jesus Christ's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 16-7. As for St. Martin de Porres, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-10.
HEARTS for Jesus Christ won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Christian Community at 6:00 p.m. on February 13th. HEARTS for Jesus Christ's defense has only allowed 29.7 points per game this season, so Christian Community's offense will have their work cut out for them. St. Martin de Porres does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
