Baseball Recap: Collinsville Gets the Win

Collinsville posted their closest victory since March 20th on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Marquette Catholic Explorers, sneaking past 8-7. The win continues a trend for the Kahoks in their matchups with the Explorers: they've now won six in a row.

Braden Henson and Adam Bovinett made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Henson tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Bovinett pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Henson also tossed no walks, which is notable because Collinsville is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-6 otherwise. At the plate, Henson scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Bovinett got on base in all four of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Collinsville let Carter Harrington and Grant Darden run wild. Harrington scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Darden scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Harrington has become a key player for Collinsville: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-6 otherwise. Roman Pomerantz was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Collinsville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marquette Catholic only posted an OBP of .303.

Collinsville's record now sits at 5-7. As for Marquette Catholic, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-5.

Looking ahead, Collinsville will be playing in front of their home fans against Belleville West at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The contest will give the Kahoks their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Marquette Catholic, they will challenge Southwestern at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
