Centerville extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 1-4. They came up short against the Connersville Spartans, falling 8-2. If the Bulldogs were looking for revenge after losing 9-3 to the Spartans when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Centerville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aiden Nelson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double. Keith Plyley Jr. also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
As for Connersville, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-4. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
On Connersville's side, Jay McMullen made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. McMullen was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Connersville let Gavin Brannon and Brody Shearer run wild. Brannon went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double, while Shearer went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Brannon has become a key player for Connersville: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least one home run, but 2-3 otherwise. Parker Flanigan was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Centerville will head out to challenge Jay County at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Connersville, they will square off against Franklin County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
