After three games on the road, Sunrise Mountain is heading back home. They will take on The Chaparral Cowboys at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Sunrise Mountain beat Canyon Springs 18-13.
Sunrise Mountain haved a senior duo take command as Auhsoj Cunningham rushed for 148 yards while picking up 9.3 yards per carry and Christein Thompson threw for 134 yards and two touchdowns. Cunningham is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played. Myles Juniel made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Chaparral on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Pinecrest Academy Cadence out of the water with a 40-6 final score. The result was nothing new for Chaparral, who have now won three games by 28 points or more so far this season.
Sunrise Mountain's win was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-1. Chaparral is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season.
Sunrise Mountain was able to grind out a solid victory over Chaparral in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, winning 21-13. Will Sunrise Mountain repeat their success, or does Chaparral have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
