The Mount Calvary Christian Chargers are taking a road trip to take on the Columbia Crimson Tide at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The last three games Mount Calvary Christian has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Friday, it was close, but Mount Calvary Christian sidestepped Christian School of York for a 5-4 win. The victory continues a trend for the Chargers in their matchups with Christian School of York: they've now won three in a row.
The team relied heavily on David Zamora, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI. Josiah Masters was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Columbia never let their opponents score on Thursday. Everything went their way against York County Tech as Columbia made off with a 9-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Crimson Tide, who have now won three matches by eight runs or more so far this season.
Not much got past Peyton Gilbert, who gave up just two hits and racked up 14 Ks to keep York County Tech off the board. Gilbert has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cameron McClair was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing six bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Evan Mummaw also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Columbia's victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average this season. As for Mount Calvary Christian, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mount Calvary Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Columbia struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Mount Calvary Christian took their victory against Columbia in their previous matchup back in April of 2022 by a conclusive 16-9. Will Mount Calvary Christian repeat their success, or does Columbia has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
