The Hutsonville/Palestine Tigers will square off against the Dugger Union Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Hutsonville/Palestine is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Hutsonville/Palestine made easy work of Brownstown/St. Elmo and carried off a 13-3 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.
Rilyn Lawhead was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Lawhead was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Brynn Griffin was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Lily Holcomb was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run.
Hutsonville/Palestine was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .519. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Dugger Union came up short against Red Hill on Tuesday, falling 16-8.
Jordyn Smith made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalee Brumbarger, who scored a run while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances.
Dugger Union dropped their record down to 0-2 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Hutsonville/Palestine, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.
Everything went Hutsonville/Palestine's way against Dugger Union in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Hutsonville/Palestine made off with an 11-3 victory.
