Glacier is a perfect 10-0 against Hellgate since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Wolfpack will be playing at home against the Knights at 11:00 a.m. Glacier is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Glacier is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Montana's top teams: Sentinel, who was ranked tenth at the time (Glacier was ranked fifth). The Wolfpack fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 8-7 on Thursday. That's two games in a row now that the Wolfpack have lost by just one run.
Cazz Rankosky was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Karley Allen was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Hellgate was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 15th straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 10-6 to Flathead.
Avery King spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, Olivia Schubert and Shannon Kane stepped up to the plate in a big way. Schubert scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Kane scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Schubert also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kaija Nagle, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
This is the second loss in a row for Glacier and nudges their season record down to 4-2. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Hellgate, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
Hellgate's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Glacier has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Hellgate, though, as they've been averaging 12.4 hits. Given Glacier's sizable advantage in that area, the Knights will need to find a way to close that gap.
Glacier took their win against Hellgate in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 16-3 score. Do the Wolfpack have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
