The Parkwood Wolf Pack will be home for the holidays to greet the Union Academy Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Parkwood's 20-7 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They lost to Weddington at home by a decisive 70-56 margin on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Parkwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 402nd, while Weddington is ranked 31st).
Loss or not, Parkwood got some senior leadership from Greg Vinson who scored 25 points and Cameron McKinney who scored 18 points. The match was McKinney 's third in a row with at least ten points.
Meanwhile, Union Academy came up short against Hickory Grove Christian on Tuesday and fell 77-70. Union Academy has struggled against Hickory Grove Christian recently, as their matchup on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Ethan Rangolan, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds and three steals. He also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Scruitsky, who scored 21 points along with four blocks.
Parkwood has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season. As for Union Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
Everything went Parkwood's way against Union Academy in their previous matchup back in November of 2022 as Parkwood made off with a 75-49 win. Does Parkwood have another victory up their sleeve, or will Union Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
