The Perry Central Bulldogs will venture away from home to square off against the Southeast Lauderdale Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Perry Central has given up an average of 9.1 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Perry Central came up short against Hattiesburg on Monday, falling 13-2. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Perry Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Journey Shows, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Southeast Lauderdale, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. Everything went their way against Quitman on Tuesday as they made off with an 11-1 win. The Tigers not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 20th.
Allie Carney made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Carney was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Mary Grace Hall and Adrianna Stephens did most of the damage at the plate: Hall went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Stephens scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Those three RBI gave Hall a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rayden King, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Southeast Lauderdale's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-17. As for Perry Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-10-1.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Perry Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .406. However, it's not like Southeast Lauderdale struggles in that department as they've averaged .354. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
