Basketball Game Preview: Evangel Christian Lightning vs. Wiregrass Kings

Evangel Christian and Wiregrass are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2021, but not for long. The Evangel Christian Lightning will be playing at home against the Wiregrass Kings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Wiregrass will be up against a hot Evangel Christian squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Evangel Christian strolled past Ezekiel Academy with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 67-48.

Asa Wagoner was nothing short of spectacular: he went 6 for 12 en route to 15 points in addition to five boards and three steals. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in assists (four). Will Welch was another key player, putting up seven points.

Evangel Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Wiregrass posted their biggest victory since November 25, 2024 on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 72-51 margin over Tuscaloosa Home Educators. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Kings.

Wiregrass is also on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-18 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for Evangel Christian, they pushed their record up to 16-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Evangel Christian strolled past Wiregrass in their previous meeting on January 4th by a score of 61-43. Will Evangel Christian repeat their success, or does Wiregrass have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
