Centura is 2-8 against St. Cecilia since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Centura Centurions will head out on the road to face off against the St. Cecilia Bluehawks at 7:30 p.m. Centura will be strutting in after a win while St. Cecilia will be coming in after a defeat.
Centura can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They came out on top against Arcadia/Loup City by a score of 40-32. The win was just what Centura needed coming off of a 56-34 loss in their prior contest.
Centura's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Barrett Fries, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and five blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Gorecki, who scored six points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, St. Cecilia's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a hard 51-37 fall against Lincoln Lutheran. While losing is never fun, St. Cecilia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while Lincoln Lutheran is ranked 35th).
Centura's victory bumped their record up to 5-16. As for St. Cecilia, their loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-9.
Centura came up short against St. Cecilia when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 55-49. Can Centura avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
