Kayden Quiroz was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. Meanwhile, Southlands Christian came tearing into Tuesday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Grizzlies 16-2. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by 11 runs or more this season.
Like Western Christian, Southlands Christian also got a great game from a two-way player: Daizia White. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). White has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Analisa Guerrero and Taya Marvel did most of the damage at the plate: Guerrero went 2-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Marvel went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Reyah Landis also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Southlands Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
The win got Western Christian back to even at 9-9. As for Southlands Christian, their record is now 15-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Western Christian hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Southlands Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Western Christian took their victory against Southlands Christian in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 12-1 score. Do the Fighting Lancers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
