Menlo-Atherton (Atherton, Calif.) defeated
Woodside (Calif.) 21-10.
After taking the lead on a field goal by
Randy Stafford, the Wildcats went into halftime with a 10-0 lead. The Bears took the lead for good with a
Zack Moore touchdown pass to
Blake Olsen in the third quarter.
David Teu played well for Woodside. The sophomore running back ran for one touchdown. He has now scored three touchdowns on the season.
Menlo-Atherton's standout player in the win was Olsen. The senior caught two touchdowns and kicked three extra points. He has now scored seven touchdowns on the season.
WHS's lone touchdown came on a 2-yard run by Teu in the second quarter.
Coming into the game MA had allowed 21.1 points per game this year. The Atherton school held firm on the defensive front, and kept the Wildcats right around the 7.1 points it had been averaging per game.
The Bears also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 16-3.
The victory was a step in the right direction for Menlo-Atherton, which was coming off a 38-14 defeat at the hands of Terra Nova in its previous game.
