Basketball Recap: Landon Warren's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Perry County over Houston County

Perry County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They took a 49-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Houston County Fighting Irish. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 52-50 back in December of 2024.

Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Landon Warren, who went 5 for 6 on his way to 14 points and three blocks. Warren is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last three games he's played. Colton Pevahouse was another key player, going 6 of 15 on his way to 14 points and six rebounds.

Houston County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hagan Honeycutt led the charge by going 5 of 8 on his way to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mac Baggett, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 12 points.

Perry County's loss dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Houston County, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season.

Perry County will look to defend their home court on Monday against Waverly Central at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Waverly Central's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games. As for Houston County, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on East Hickman County at 7:30 p.m. on January 14th.
