Haywood and Bolivar Central are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2016, but not for long. The Haywood Tomcats will head out on the road to take on the Bolivar Central Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Haywood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Tuesday.
Haywood posted their closest win since December 20, 2023 on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged Bolton out 73-70. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Haywood's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lekendrick Phillips, who scored 23 points along with five steals. Phillips is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Ron Brisbon, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds.
Meanwhile, after a string of 13 wins, Bolivar Central's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 51-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fayette Ware.
Haywood's victory bumped their record up to 15-9. As for Bolivar Central, their loss ended a ten-game streak of away wins and brought them to 21-4.
Haywood came up short against Bolivar Central in their previous meeting two weeks ago, falling 57-53. Can Haywood avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
