The Monument Valley Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight defeat. They had to suffer through a rough 74-41 loss at the hands of Green River. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Monument Valley in their matchups with Green River: they've now lost four in a row.
Monument Valley's loss came despite strong showings from Melias Cly and Braxton Goodshield. Cly scored 16 points, while Goodshield scored 13 points.
Leading Green River to victory were Luis Hernandez and Raul Mendoza. Hernandez scored 21 points, while Mendoza scored 26 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mendoza has scored all season. Jason Hernandez was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Monument Valley's defeat was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Green River, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monument Valley and Whitehorse will face off at 5:30 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Utah (Whitehorse is ranked 130th, while Monument Valley is ranked 137th). As for Green River, they will head out on the road to take on Milford at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Milford focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 last Wednesday.
