If the Sotomayor WILDCATS were feeling good off their 72-26 takedown of the Holmes Huskies last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Sotomayor took a 53-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Jay on Friday. Sotomayor was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Jay apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Sotomayor lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Iyanna Dixon, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and three steals. Jah'dae Bussey was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Sotomayor smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jay only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
Jay's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sincere Jackson, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Jackson has scored at least a third of Jay's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ny'ashia Barnes, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Sotomayor's loss dropped their record down to 20-8. As for Jay, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 22-10 record this season.
Sotomayor will be playing in front of their home fans against Harlan at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Texas (Harlan is ranked 119th, while Sotomayor is ranked 98th). As for Jay, they will head out on the road to take on Holmes at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Holmes has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Jay will arrive with four straight wins.
