The Cyprus Pirates will head out on the road to take on the Kearns Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cyprus is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games.
Cyprus only won by two when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 50-point they dealt Granger on Tuesday. Cyprus really took it to Granger for the full four quarters, racking up a 74-24 victory at home. With Cyprus ahead 44-9 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Cyprus got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Amelia Echternkamp out in front who scored 23 points along with four steals and three blocks. It was the first time this season that Echternkamp posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Veanna Pau'u, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Kearns' good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell to Taylorsville 42-38. Kearns has struggled against Taylorsville recently, as their match on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Cyprus has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. As for Kearns, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-10.
Cyprus came out on top in a nail-biter against Kearns in their previous matchup back in January, sneaking past 50-47. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Kearns' Adhau Chol, who scored 12 points along with eight blocks and six rebounds.
