Island Coast and Gulf Coast are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. Island Coast will welcome Gulf Coast at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Island Coast's favor as the team sits on nine straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Gulf Coast has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
Last Wednesday, Island Coast was able to grind out a solid win over Naples, taking the game 8-3.
Bobby Wilenius tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024.
On the hitting side, Austin Schoolcraft was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayven Torres, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Gulf Coast suffered their closest loss since April 30, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of Barron Collier by a score of 4-2.
Gulf Coast also got a good showing from Colton Schlief, who tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Schlief also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Gulf Coast is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-7 otherwise.
Even though they lost, Gulf Coast hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. This was only their first loss (out of three games) when they post two or more strikeouts.
Island Coast's victory bumped their record up to 13-4. As for Gulf Coast, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.
Island Coast skirted past Gulf Coast 2-1 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Does Island Coast have another victory up their sleeve, or will Gulf Coast turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
