The East St. Louis Flyers won against the Lanphier Lions last Tuesday with 70 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Saturday. East St. Louis walked away with a 70-58 win over Lanphier. Given East St. Louis' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while Lanphier is ranked 215th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
East St. Louis got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Taylor Powell out in front who scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks. Powell is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Davis Bynum, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for East St. Louis and bumps their season record up to 11-6. As for Lanphier, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-9.
East St. Louis will head out on the road to square off against Cardinal Ritter College Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Lanphier, they will be playing at home against Hyde Park at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
