The Clarion-Limestone Lions will face off against the Redbank Valley Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Clarion-Limestone is looking for their season's first win.
Clarion-Limestone managed to slip by Moniteau the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Lions lost 11-1 to the Warriors on Monday.
Clarion-Limestone saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jesse Siwiecki, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Alex Love also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Redbank Valley owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Monday. They walked away with a 3-0 victory over Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley. The win continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley: they've now won three in a row.
Carson Gould and Jaxon Huffman made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Gould tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Huffman didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over 5.2 innings pitched. What's more, Gould posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Gould went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI, while Huffman scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Braylon Wagner was excellent, scoring a run while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Breckin Minich, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Clarion-Limestone's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Redbank Valley, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Clarion-Limestone has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Redbank Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Clarion-Limestone suffered a grim 14-7 defeat to Redbank Valley in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
