The New Britain Golden Hurricanes will head out to face off against the Windsor Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
New Britain is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: Southington, who was ranked 21st at the time (New Britain was ranked 11th). The Golden Hurricanes had just enough and edged out the Blue Knights 3-2 on Monday.
New Britain wouldn't go down easily and took Southington into a fifth set where they got it done with a eight-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 14-25, 25-16, 25-20, 24-26, 15-7.
New Britain can attribute much of their success to Liam Alape, who had 11 digs and three aces, and Joshua Ramales, who had six digs and two aces. That's the most digs Ramales has posted since back in May of 2024.
They weren't the only good server: New Britain was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in eight consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Windsor can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over Academy of Science and Innovation. While the Warriors didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Windsor had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 17-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-19.
New Britain's record now sits at 7-3. As for Windsor, their record is now 6-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Wednesday's contest: New Britain has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 8.2 aces per game. However, it's not like Windsor struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.4 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went New Britain's way against Windsor in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as New Britain made off with a 3-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Hurricanes since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
