The Verdigris Cardinals waltzed into Thursday's contest with two straight wins but they left with three. They took down Inola 28-14. That's another feather in the cap for Verdigris, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Ty McKnight was on fire: he rushed for 176 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.8 yards per carry, and also caught a touchdown. Verdigris also got help from Tyler Willis who showed off his sure hands for 92 receiving yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Inola to a paltry 218 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Verdigris' ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out five times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Taylor Newcomb and Ryan Wells who racked up five sacks between them.
Dakota Ryder and Rowdie Rock certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Ryder threw for 156 yards and two touchdowns, while Rock picked up 97 receiving yards and a touchdown. Rock's longest reception was for an incredible 78 yards.
Verdigris has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season. As for Inola, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.
Verdigris will head out on the road to face off against Berryhill at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. One thing working in Berryhill's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last four matches. Inola does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
