The Redondo Union Sea Hawks will take on the La Serna Lancers at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. Redondo Union is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Redondo Union is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Yucaipa 2-1. The win was nothing new for the Sea Hawks as they're now sitting on three straight.
Bailey Murray spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 23 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Abby Luis, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run. Kendra Mura was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Redondo Union lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March of 2024.
Liberty typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday La Serna proved too difficult a challenge. They were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over the Bison. The result was nothing new for the Lancers, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Cann Puig was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Aubrie Baruch was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lexi Avila, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.
Redondo Union pushed their record up to 19-6 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for La Serna, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-10 record this season.
Redondo Union skirted past La Serna 5-3 in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Sea Hawks repeat their success, or do the Lancers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
