The Riesel Indians's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 73-20 loss at the hands of Marlin. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Riesel has scored all season.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Riesel struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Marlin to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aarik Smith-shelley, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Smith-shelley hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Jerry Willis was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Riesel has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season. As for Marlin, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 10-4.
Riesel will head out on the road to take on Wortham at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wortham is on a three-game streak of home losses, Riesel a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. Marlin will take on Hubbard at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hubbard will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1058th, while Marlin is ranked 480th).
