The Happy Camp Indians entered their tilt with the Hayfork Timberjacks with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Happy Camp sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 59-57 win over Hayfork on Tuesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Happy Camp had a senior duo take command as Michael Hauki dropped a double-double on 20 points and 16 rebounds and Luis Osorio scored 21 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Osorio is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Tyler Hahn, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Despite the defeat, Hayfork had strong showings from Anthony Bonelli, who scored 24 points along with five rebounds, and Tatem Wiley, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds. The matchup was Bonelli's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Sam Jessee was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Even though they lost, Hayfork were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Happy Camp pushed their record up to 3-0 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points per game. As for Hayfork, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-3.
Happy Camp will head out on the road to face off against Butte Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hayfork will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Tulelake at 11:30 a.m. on January 6, 2024.
