Basketball Game Preview: Shorewood Greyhounds vs. Whitnall Falcons

The Shorewood Greyhounds will take on the Whitnall Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Friday, Shorewood didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Milwaukee Lutheran, but they still walked away with a 70-64 win.

It was another big night for Serinity Metcalfe, who dropped a double-double on 46 points and ten rebounds. The contest was her 19th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nyah Nelson, who posted two points along with 14 boards and four steals.

Meanwhile, Whitnall came tearing into Tuesday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They breezed by the Rebels to the tune of 69-24. The Falcons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 26 points or more this season.

Shorewood better keep an eye on Riley Ward. She was instrumental in Whitnall's win, going 8 of 15 en route to 24 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals. Ward has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ella Koch, who put up six points along with seven boards and four steals.

Whitnall was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Whitnall's victory bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Shorewood, their win bumped their record up to 11-3.

Shorewood might still be hurting after the 66-43 defeat they got from Whitnall in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Can Shorewood avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
