There's no place like home for the Mayer Wildcats, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Anthem Prep on Thursday and snuck past 34-31. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Mayer has posted since November 27, 2023.
It was another big night for Danni McCann, who dropped a triple-double on 23 points, ten rebounds, and ten steals. That makes it 15 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Mayer's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Fatima Morales, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Anthem Prep's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Abigail Purvis, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and six blocks. Purvis is crushing the block category: she's posted at least four every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Amanda Gandolfo, who scored six points along with nine steals and seven rebounds.
Mayer's win bumped their record up to 11-12-1. As for Anthem Prep, they dropped their record down to 7-9 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mayer will take on the Frogs at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Salome will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak. As for Anthem Prep, they will head out on the road to challenge the Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
