The Charleston Math & Science Riptide struggled with assists on Wednesday (the St. John's Islanders had ten more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Charleston Math & Science had to suffer through a rough 62-20 loss at the hands of St. John's. Charleston Math & Science has not had much luck with St. John's recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Charleston Math & Science's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ellis Britt, who scored eight points along with six rebounds. Those six rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Peyton Webb, who scored six points along with three steals.
Leading St. John's to victory were Jasmyne Robinson and Daeshia Buford. Robinson dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Buford scored 27 points along with seven steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Buford has scored at least 25% of St. John's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaniya Smith, who scored three points along with seven assists and six steals.
Charleston Math & Science's defeat dropped their record down to 1-12. As for St. John's, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
Charleston Math & Science will head out on the road to face off against Lowcountry Leadership at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lowcountry Leadership comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last seven games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for St. John's, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Military Magnet Academy at 7:00 p.m. Military Magnet Academy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 314 points over their last three contests.
