Service is 8-2 against Eagle River since May of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Cougars will challenge the Wolves at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Service 3.1, Eagle River 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Service is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They never let Juneau-Douglas get on the board and left with a 5-0 win.
Braun Precosky looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Rilen Niclai, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two runs. Palmer Dalton was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Eagle River faced Wasilla in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Wolves were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Warriors. The result was nothing new for the Wolves, who have now won nine matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Ryan Mullen made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Mullen was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, Jack Mullen was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Dallin Roberts, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Eagle River always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wasilla only posted an OBP of .143.
The victory (which was Eagle River's fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-3-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Service, their victory bumped their record up to 19-4.
