Thomas Jefferson is 0-3 against Golden since May of 2021 but things could change on Wednesday. The Spartans will challenge the Demons at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with seven defeats in a row, Thomas Jefferson turned things around against Montbello on Tuesday. They blew past the Warriors 9-3. The Spartans not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 1, 2024.
David Villarreal was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jesus Flores-Sanchez, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Xavier Navarro-Betancourt also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
Thomas Jefferson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Golden was not the first on the board last Wednesday, but they got there more often. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Pueblo Central, sneaking past 7-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Demons.
Sawyer Brinkman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Jaydon Stroup was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Liam Leffert, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base.
Golden's record now sits at 7-3. As for Thomas Jefferson, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 2-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Thomas Jefferson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Golden struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Thomas Jefferson suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to Golden in their previous meeting back in March of 2022. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
