The Berkeley Stags and the Summerville Green Wave squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Berkeley Stags had to settle for second. Berkeley's tough 34-14 defeat to Summerville might stick with them for a while. Berkeley has not had much luck with Summerville recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Berkeley saw an underclassman step up: Henry Rivers threw for 14 yards and a touchdown.
Berkeley bumped their record down to 6-6 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-3 Ashley Ridge and 7-4 Fort Dorchester (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 69.1% over those games). As for Summerville, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 12-0.
Berkeley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Summerville will face off against Carolina Forest at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Carolina Forest will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 28th, while Summerville is ranked fifth).
