Pequot - West recap October 1, 2013
Fans got a thrill when John Lippincott and Paxton Franklin connected against North Branford. The connection was good for 59 yards, the longest such play in Pequot - West this season.
Canton led the league in scoring this week by notching 47 points on Housatonic-Wamogo.
Lippincott threw for 263 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 13-35 with 0 interception.
Seth Dayton was the best receiver in the league this week as Gilbert-Northwestern Regional fell to the Thunderbirds. Dayton tallied 4 receptions for 125 yards. Franklin helped Gilbert-Northwestern Regional's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 63 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Lippincott and Tony Ortiz, the Yellowjackets have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Lippincott leads the league in passing with 516 yards, while Ortiz has rushed for 517 yards this season. Granby Memorial's Ian Downey leads the league in receiving yards with 226 on 13 catches.
Next week's game between Gilbert-Northwestern Regional and Lewis Mills will feature a good passing match up as Lippincott will test his arm against Matt Rinkus's defensive ability.
At the moment, the Yellowjackets are in second, while the Spartans are in fifth.
The Warriors made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,063 from 9,010. The improvement was largely due to a 47-6 victory over the Mountaineers last week.
