Bucksport has won 11 straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Mattanawcook has won 11 straight on the road also dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Tuesday. The Golden Bucks will host the Lynx at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Bucksport's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Searsport as they made off with a 27-0 victory. The Golden Bucks' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Marina Keene and Natalie Simpson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Keene tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Simpson pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. At the plate, Keene got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs and two RBI, while Simpson went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Bucksport got a massive performance out of Jetta Shook, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Emma Clement was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four runs and three RBI.
Bucksport was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Mattanawcook came out on top against Foxcroft Academy on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Lynx were the clear victors by a 6-0 margin over the Ponies.
Like Bucksport, Mattanawcook also got a great game from a two-way player: Julianna Cloukey. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. Cloukey was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and one double.
Cloukey wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Megan House, who went 1-for-5 with two RBI and one run. Riley Irish also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Bucksport's win bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Mattanawcook, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
Bucksport's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Golden Bucks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Mattanawcook, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Bucksport continue to outrun the ball?
Bucksport took their win against Mattanawcook when the teams last played on Thursday by a conclusive 11-1 score. Do the Golden Bucks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lynx turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
