It was a good run, but Champion unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Newton Falls Tigers by a score of 2-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Golden Flashes of the 5-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Dylan Howell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Champion saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Konner Reed, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. That RBI was Reed's first of the season.

Champion's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Newton Falls, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-5.

Looking ahead, Champion will square off against Brookfield at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Newton Falls, they will welcome Harding at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
