Genesee dropped their record down to 13-3 on Thursday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins at home. They lost 21-12 to the Colton Wildcats. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.
Rylie Baysinger was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Sydney Banks, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
As for Colton, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.3 runs over those games.
On Colton's side, Kiya Soza was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up seven earned (and five unearned) runs off nine hits. Soza has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, five runs, and six RBI while going 5-for-6.
In other batting news, Lola Walsborn and Mere Bell did most of the damage at the plate: Walsborn went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Bell went 4-for-6 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. That triple was Walsborn's first of the season. Ella Nollmeyer was another key player, getting on base in three of her six plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Genesee will take on Prairie at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight. As for Colton, they will venture away from home to square off against Rosalia at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.29 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
