Mt. Pleasant got a massive performance out of Cole Chatfield, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Chatfield a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor Drzal, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Mt. Pleasant was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southmoreland only posted a batting average of .133.
Meanwhile, Belle Vernon never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Charleroi with a sharp 10-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Leopards in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won four in a row.
Lucas Judy was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Alonzo Wade was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Connor Bergman was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Mt. Pleasant pushed their record up to 10-4-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Belle Vernon, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mt. Pleasant hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .361.
