The Brownsburg Bulldogs will face off against the Castle Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Brownsburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Brownsburg is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Mooresville. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Avery Toole was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over 4.2 innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Brownsburg saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bailey Paddock, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Castle came out on top against Evansville Mater Dei on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run sixth inning. The Knights were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Wildcats. The Knights haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Bailey Gravens looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Mati Hughes and Emma Bruggenschmidt did most of the damage at the plate: Hughes went 4-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Bruggenschmidt went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Bruggenschmidt has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Maddie Rose, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Castle lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are 2-1 when they post two or more home runs.
Castle pushed their record up to 6-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Brownsburg, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.
Castle's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Brownsburg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Castle, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Brownsburg keep running through batters, or will the Knights buck the trend?
Brownsburg couldn't quite get it done against Castle in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 8-5. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
