The Swainsboro Tigers had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They snuck past Elbert County with a 34-28 win on Friday. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but Swainsboro was the better team in the second half.
Swainsboro's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Demello Jones led the charge by rushing for 155 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Qindaruis Brown and his 116 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Swainsboro's victory.
Several Blue Devils players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jacari Barnett, who rushed for 46 yards and two touchdowns. Barnett has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last three times he's played.
The win (which was Swainsboro's third in a row) raised their record to 11-2. As for Elbert County, their loss dropped their record down to 10-3.
Swainsboro will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Brooks County at 7:30 p.m. on December 1st. Brooks County will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak. Elbert County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
