The Brunswick Dragons are taking a road trip to take on the Camden Hills Windjammers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Brunswick has given up an average of 8.8 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Brunswick is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Messalonskee on Monday. They came up short against the Eagles, falling 11-1.
Brunswick saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julianna Morin, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Stella Maxim also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Camden Hills came tearing into Tuesday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.1 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Cougars 9-2. The result was nothing new for the Windjammers, who have now won four matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Maya Stone made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Thea Laukka and Evangelene Morneau did most of the damage at the plate: Laukka went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Morneau went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. Laukka has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times she's played.
Camden Hills pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Brunswick, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Brunswick has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Camden Hills struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Brunswick suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Camden Hills in their previous meeting on May 2nd. Can the Dragons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
