The Cristo Rey Cougar will head out on the road to face off against the Patriot Prep Academy Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Cristo Rey suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Monday. They were outmatched by Horizon Science Academy at home and fell 99-50. Cristo Rey has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Patriot Prep Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak last Saturday. They received a tough blow as they fell 62-43 to Horizon Science Academy. Patriot Prep Academy was down 49-29 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Dominic Sammons, who scored seven points along with seven steals and six rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Cameron Thomas was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 11 rebounds and two blocks.
Even though they lost, Patriot Prep Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Cristo Rey has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for Patriot Prep Academy, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-5.
Cristo Rey was dealt a bruising 72-32 defeat at the hands of Patriot Prep Academy in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Cristo Rey was down 37-16.
