Football Recap: Arleta Skates Past Poly with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Arleta). They blew past the Poly Parrots 50-7 on Thursday. Considering the Mustangs have won six matchups by more than 20 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Leading Arleta to victory were Jose Rosas and Jesse Rios. Rosas rushed for 131 yards and two TDs on only 13 carries, while Rios rushed for 40 yards and one touchdown. The dominant performance also gave Rios a new career-high in passing yards (54). Ethan Lillingston was in the mix too, providing Arleta with three scores.

Arleta didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Poly to a completion percentage of just 41.2%. The team can thank Dominic Orduno for the heroic effort on defense: he. Arleta has been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.6 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.6 in their last three games.

Arleta didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Rosas and Lillingston. Rosas' rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 119 rushing yards. Lillingston got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Arleta has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.3 points over those games. As for Poly, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.

Arleta and Poly are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Mustangs will head out to challenge Huntington Park at 7:00 p.m. on the 7th. As for Poly, they will take on Contreras at 7:00 p.m. on the 7th.
