The Shenandoah Raiders suffered their biggest loss since November 24, 2023 on Thursday. Their rough 54-30 loss to Lapel might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Shenandoah can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 243rd, while Lapel is ranked 45th).
Shenandoah's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rory McKnight, who scored five points along with three steals. McKnight has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lilliana Lynch, who scored six points.
Leading Lapel to victory were Madelyn Poynter and Laniah Wills. Poynter scored 16 points along with three steals, while Wills scored 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Rosemary Likens was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Shenandoah now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Lapel, they pushed their record up to 16-3 with that victory, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shenandoah will challenge Randolph Southern at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Randolph Southern focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Wednesday. As for Lapel, they will head out on the road to take on Pendleton Heights at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pendleton Heights is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
