After flying high against the Southern Academy Cougars on Friday, the Morgan Academy Senators came back down to earth. Morgan Academy took a serious blow against Bessemer Academy on Saturday, falling 90-23. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Morgan Academy has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why Morgan Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Aidan Barnes. Despite the final result, he scored six points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Morgan Academy struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Bessemer Academy racked up 19 assists.
Bessemer Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kane Burns out in front who scored 23 points. Those 23 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Jeran Jones, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Morgan Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Bessemer Academy, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-1.
Morgan Academy will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Fort Dale Academy at 7:00 p.m. As for Bessemer Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Clarke Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Clarke Prep is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
