Huntingdon hasn't had much luck against Central recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Bearcats will look to defend their home field against the Dragons at 4:30 p.m. Huntingdon's pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so Central's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Huntingdon's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Tuesday's struggle, when Chestnut Ridge hitters got past them. The Bearcats lost 12-2 to the Lions on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Bearcats have suffered since May 7, 2024.
Huntingdon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Izzy Kazmarski, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. That double was Kazmarski's first of the season. Alivia Edwards was another, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Central entered their tilt with Hollidaysburg on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 8-7 W against the Golden Tigers. The Dragons' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Riley Peterson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on eight hits. The game marked her first with multiple earned runs this season.
On the hitting side, Hailey Fries was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Steele, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Central pushed their record up to 3-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Huntingdon, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
Central's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Huntingdon has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Central, though, as they've been averaging only 2.7 strikeouts. Will Huntingdon keep running through batters, or will the Dragons buck the trend?
