Softball Recap: Evergreen Valley Finds Home Field Redemption Against Mt. Pleasant

There's no place like home for Evergreen Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Mt. Pleasant Cardinals on Wednesday. Considering the Cougars have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Mackenzie Brongiel was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Daven Woodham and Ariella Solorio did most of the damage at the plate: Woodham got on base in four of her five plate appearances with five stolen bases and five runs, while Solorio went 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave Solorio a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jayda Galvan, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Evergreen Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mt. Pleasant only posted an OBP of .385.

Evergreen Valley's victory bumped their record up to 10-11. As for Mt. Pleasant, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

Evergreen Valley is taking a road trip to square off against Hill at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mt. Pleasant, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Gunderson at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Grizzlies will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Cardinals surely won't give up without a fight.
