The Acadiana Rams will face off against the Lafayette Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lafayette took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Acadiana, who comes in off a win.
On Monday, Acadiana got the win against Opelousas by a conclusive 3-0.
The match finished with set scores of 25-13, 25-9, 25-19.
Meanwhile, Lafayette didn't have quite enough to beat Southside on Wednesday and fell 3-2. The Lions haven't had much luck with the Sharks recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Lafayette took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The final score came out to 21-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-18, 15-9.
Acadiana will have to keep a close watch on Avery Larpenteur and Brae'Ona Smith, a pair of players who had a big impact on Lafayette's prior game. Larpenteur had 16 digs and 14 assists, while Smith had 19 digs and four aces. Smith is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last five games she's played.
Lafayette's defeat dropped their record down to 17-4. As for Acadiana, their victory bumped their record up to 17-11.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's match: Acadiana has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.3 aces per game. However, it's not like Lafayette struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.9 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Acadiana couldn't quite get it done against Lafayette in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 as they fell 3-1. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
