Covenant Christian is a perfect 5-0 against Herron since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Warriors will take on the Achaeans in a tournament on Saturday. Covenant Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Covenant Christian is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Lebanon on Friday. They came up short against the Tigers, falling 11-2.
Covenant Christian saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Braylin Boruff, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Herron, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They blew past Tindley 13-2 on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Achaeans, who have now won seven games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Jordyn Ault was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Evelyn Grimes was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Elena Newsom, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Herron now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Covenant Christian, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-8.
Herron's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Covenant Christian has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Herron, though, as they've been averaging 9 hits. Given Covenant Christian's sizable advantage in that area, the Achaeans will need to find a way to close that gap.
Covenant Christian took their win against Herron when the teams last played back in April of 2022 by a conclusive 21-0 score. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Achaeans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
