The Peru Tigers will square off against the Maconaquah Braves at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Peru is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Peru managed to slip by Rochester the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Tigers came up short against the Zebras on Monday, falling 8-1.
Meanwhile, Maconaquah had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They blew past the Knights 10-1. The result was nothing new for the Braves, who have now won five contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Bennett Isenburg made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
In other pitching news, Cohen Helmuth looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Caiden Richards was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Chase Washburn was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Maconaquah kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.
Maconaquah's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Peru, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Peru has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Maconaquah struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Peru's way against Maconaquah in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Peru made off with a 12-1 victory. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Braves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
