The Hanks Knights pushed their score all the way to 34 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 38-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Parkland. Hanks has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Hanks' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Marcus Porras, who threw for 353 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 13.1 yards per attempt, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Jude Blanco, who picked up 221 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Even if they lost, Hanks' defensive line sure didn't make it easy: Parkland's QB was sacked seven times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Dylan Vasquez and Christian Sandoval who racked up five sacks between them.
Hanks' defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 5-4. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-1 Del Valle and 8-1 Bel Air (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 69.4% over those games). As for Parkland, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Hanks will be playing at home against Ysleta at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Texas (Ysleta is ranked 811th, while Hanks is ranked 835th). As for Parkland, they will head out on the road to face off against Horizon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Horizon has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since August 24.
